Serial Key Bitlocker Recovery Every Resr
Hi all,
Just today, with nothing done on my part, my Dell XPS 15 decided to ask for a bitlocker key on starting up. I was a tad annoyed as usually this has been because a Dell update utility did something and then updated the bios or some such and then screwed me.
So I popped it in and the notebook worked fine. However, on starting it again, up comes the bitlocker request again. It comes up every time now; whether I shutdown/restarted or shutdown outright and then pressed the power button.
I have W10 Pro, running Windows Defender and Malwarebytes. I didn't see any update requests or things applied so I don't believe I actively changed anything.
Uh, any idea what I should be doing? Its mighty annoying I can assure you.
edit - update; saw a site recommend turning off bitlocker and then resuming protection. I turned it off no problem but it won't resume. So I can now turn off and turn on the computer no problem but I assume there is no bitlocker functioning.
I am told in a pop up that 'a compatible tpm security device cannot be found' as per this imgur image
The problem is that I have forgotten my password to unlock my E: drive which contains my important information. Unfortunately I don't have a recovery key. I click on Unlocking a drive and then I click on forgot my password. I shows some information and displays something like:
Your recovery key can be identified by: 6FABCF77
And on the next page it says:
Full BitLocker recovery key identification: 6FABCF77-7BDA-47FD-94D0-E990147ECBE7

Looks like what the information above is like a thumbprint for a certificate, which is really just a shorthand way of identifying the public key.
Anyway, without the recovery key or password, there is no chance of recovery of your data.

You'll will find your actual Key ID and abnormally long Recovery Key number.
